Stewards
As the backbone of our union, Building Stewards play a central organizing role for Local 891 by promoting the union to their fellow employees, organizing the members at their work site, and helping their fellow members through the grievance process.
Becoming a steward can be a long, but rewarding process that is earned through:
~Participation in Local 891 activities, including regularly attending General Membership meetings
~Establish a working relationship with
your Business Representative
~ A willingness to help fellow members
~ Volunteering for Local 891 activities
~Having knowledge of your craft and contract
~Mediating skills

James R. Hoffa Memorial Scholarship Fund

TEAMSTERS Scholarship Fund
The TEAMSTERS Scholarship Fund was created so that affiliates can make contributions to a fund that is under the oversight of the International Union with a Board of Trustees appointed by the General Executive Board. This scholarship fund will provide 600 $2,000 scholarships to graduating seniors of the class of 2024. These awards are merit-based. To qualify, applicants must be a son, daughter, or dependent of a Teamsters member in good standing, which is defined in Article X, Section 5 of the International Constitution.

Discounts
Each Local 891 member and retiree receives a no-cost $6,000 Accidental Death and Dismemberment benefit from union-based American Income Life Insurance Company.
Upon becoming a member, you should receive a letter with an enclosed card that you will need to fill out with beneficiary information, sign and return. You can respond online at AILife and enter the access code sgi4n. Once you return that card, your household family is eligible for discounts on prescriptions, hearing care, vision care / products, and chiropractic care.

Pensions
When are you eligible to retire?
In addition to TeamCare health care benefit issues, Kaylon also works hand in hand with our members who contribute to the Central States Pension Fund. Want to find out how long before you can retire or start the process?
Kaylon is available to walk you through paperwork process for both regular pensions and disability pensions and recommends that you contact her prior to 90 days from the day you want to start collecting your pension benefits.
